How We Grade and Choose Our Leather & Exotic Skins
I’ve always appreciated quality leather, especially when it comes to my shoes. In 2015, I turned to working with leather as a way to fulfill my passion for working with my hands and an avenue for creating beautiful, luxury goods that could withstand the test of time. I loved the qualities that made leather unique - its flexibility, its unique textures and coloring, and the way I could use leather to create items that offered beauty and luxury. What began as cutting old belts from my closet in order to create jewelry and cuffs, quickly turned into the leather empire that is now Glover & Wyre.
In 2019 I was inspired to begin working with exotic skins, in addition to leather, when a golf buddy introduced me to a famous Atlanta company known for their long history (41 years) in exotics. Since then he has taught me the how to work will almost all the exotics we produce.
I have made it a priority to try to work with tanneries based in the USA, some of which are over 100 years old. I try to source leather (specifically American alligator) from local Georgia hunters and farmers, in order to contribute to the local economy as much as possible. When crafting leather pieces, from belts, to wallets, bags, and beyond, I make it my priority to use responsible practices. I handcraft every piece, giving each item next-level attention and top-notch detail. I carefully measure and cut each skin in order to maximize its usage, and avoid unnecessary waste.
Working with high quality leather and exotic skins affords me an opportunity to create beautiful, luxurious goods that can be cherished for a lifetime!
